Fertility / Infertility

Trying to get pregnant?

Starting a family is one of those life experiences we look forward to eagerly, but like 1 in 5 NZ couples, you may find that the joy turns to anxiety and frustration when getting pregnant doesn't happen as easily or quickly as you had anticipated.

How can I help?

As a Registered Naturopath, Fertility Educator and ex Midwife, I work with you and your partner in two key ways to help achieve pregnancy, regardless of how long you have been trying to conceive:

  1. Fertility Education and timing of intercourse
  2. Naturopathic solutions

Coming to see me can make trying to get pregnant a whole lot easier and less stressful.

1. Fertility Education - Timing is crucial

Did you know that the chances of a healthy fertile couple conceiving each month are only 20 - 25%! Learning about your unique menstrual cycle and the days you are fertile will give you crucial information to time intercourse and greatly improve chances of getting pregnant. This information is extremely useful before, during or after other fertility investigations have been done.

A study at a NZ Fertility clinic showed that 74% of women had inadequate understanding of their fertility. Furthermore only 15% were consciously and accurately timing intercourse to maximize conception. Learning about your fertility can potentially avoid a lot of unnecessary stress.

I will teach you to identify and chart the fertile days in your menstrual cycle so that you can time intercourse correctly. A couples "fertile window" can range from as few as 1 up to 6 days in each cycle. Knowing exactly when this fertile window is removes the guesswork, allowing you to plan, schedule in and make use of these important days. Smart phone apps and ovulation predictors simply do not give you enough information.

You will also gather valuable information about your cycles such as if and when you are ovulating, if the second half of your cycle is long enough to sustain a pregnancy, the health of your cervical mucus, information for appropriate timing of tests and you will know when your next period is due. You will also be able to identify if you are possibly pregnant.

2. Naturopathic Solutions

I can also work with you as a Naturopath, based on very successful principles from the Foresight Institute in the UK. Using Herbal Therapies coupled with nutritional supplements and lifestyle changes, fertility may be significantly enhanced and blocks to reproduction cleared.

The Foresight Institute has a 75% success rate with couples with a history of infertility or miscarriage. Should you need to go onto an IVF programme the improvements in your health will increase your chances of success, with the IVF success rate after Foresight being 45% as compared to the National average of 22%.
